Odoo defines users as people who have access to the database to perform daily tasks. You can add as many users as needed and apply rules to restrict the type of information each user can access. Users and access rights can be added and changed at any time.

Go to Settings ‣ Manage Users, then click Create.

In Developer Mode After activation, you can select User Type.

The Portal and Public options do not allow you to choose access rights. Members have specific ones (such as record rules and restricted menus) and usually do not belong to the usual Odoo groups.

Activate Developer Mode, then go to Settings ‣ Users & Companies ‣ User Groups.

When selecting a user group, users can access it under :ref:[UNKNOWN NODE problematic] Access Rights <general / odoo_basics / add_individual_user>, where the details of the group's rules and inheritance are not displayed, hence the User Group menu appears. The User Group is created to define the rule model in the application.
Under the *User* column, the current user is listed. Content with administrative permissions is displayed in black.

Inheritance means that users added to this application group will automatically be added to the following. In the example below, users in the Administrators group who have access to Sales will also have access to Site/Restricted Editor and Sales/Users: All Documents.

Important

Remember to frequently test the changed settings to ensure that the required users can access them smoothly.

On the Menu tab, you can define the menus (models) that users can access.

"Access Rights" rules are the first level of permissions. This field consists of object names, which are the technical names of the models. For each model, appropriately enable the following options:

  • Read: Users can only see the system information of this object.
  • Write: Users can edit the system information of this object.
  • Create: System information that can be created by the user for this object.
  • Delete: Users can delete the system information of this object.

The rules of the second layer concerning editing and visibility can form record rules. They override or adjust access permissions.
Record rules are written using fields. A field is a condition used to filter or search data. Therefore, a field expression is a list of conditions. For each rule, select one of the following options: Read, Write, Create, and Delete.

Important

Changing access permissions may have a significant impact on the database. Therefore, unless you have knowledge of domains in Odoo, we recommend contacting an Odoo business consultant or our support team.

Multi-company Architecture field allows you to set user permissions for accessing your multi-branch database.

Annotation

Please note that if not handled properly, many conflicting multi-company architecture behaviors may occur. Therefore, a deep understanding of Odoo is required. For technical instructions, please refer to this<https://www.odoo.com/documentation/13.0/howtos/company.html> _Document.
