With less than 70 days to go until Odoo Experience 2026 (September 24-26, Brussels), the Odoo R&D team released a wave of new feature details intensively in July. After carefully reviewing information from official channels and third-party blogs, I have come to a conclusion: Odoo 20 is not "a version with a few AI features added," but a turning point that transforms AI from "answering whatever is asked" to "taking action on its own."
Today, let's skip the big talk. I've picked out the most practical new features for small and medium-sized enterprises and will explain clearly what each one can do and what it means.
1. Accounting and Auditing: AI Can Complete the Full Annual Equity Cycle on Its Own
Odoo founder Fabien Pinckaers publicly demonstrated a scenario during an internal presentation that left a deep impression on me — he entered a prompt in Odoo: "I am the new CFO, tell me everything I should know for 2026. Start the annual audit. Execute a complete full equity cycle check."
AI took over directly. No human intervention, no configuration process—just a single prompt launched the entire annual audit workflow.
In an enterprise, the annual audit is typically a "multi-person collaboration, cross-departmental coordination, weeks-long" process—the finance department prepares accounts, auditors sample and verify, and management repeatedly confirms. Odoo compresses this to the level of "just say a word and let AI start working."
Of course, major audit matters in practice (especially those involving subjective judgment) cannot be entirely handed over to AI. However, routine equity cycle checks, account balance reconciliations, and abnormal transaction flagging—tasks that account for over 60% of audit workload—can be fully handled by AI. For small and medium-sized enterprises, this means the cost and cycle of self-audits can be significantly reduced.
2. E-commerce: TikTok Shop is natively integrated, not just "one more channel"
TikTok Shop's market size has become so large that no e-commerce business can afford to ignore it—its global GMV exceeded $20 billion in 2025, and its operational model is completely different from traditional e-commerce: a single live-streaming sales surge can push daily order volume up by 10 times.
Odoo 20's approach is: Native Marketplace connector, directly integrated with TikTok Shop. Automatically pulls orders, syncs shipping documents, and updates inventory levels in real time. It is not a third-party plugin, but part of the core product.
| Feature points | Changes to daily operations |
|---|---|
| Order auto-sync | Orders generated during TikTok LIVE streaming enter Odoo in real time without manual entry. |
| Inventory updates in real time | Synchronize inventory every 10 minutes to prevent overselling during live-streaming sales spikes |
| Delivery note auto-generated | After order confirmation, delivery note and shipping label are automatically generated. |
| Customer Self-Service Return | Customers can initiate returns directly through the portal without contacting customer service. |
The most interesting feature is the "Customer Self-Service Return" function — previously, returns in Odoo basically required manual operation by customer service, where customers had to send emails, wait for replies, and fill out forms. In version 20, customers can initiate a return with just one click on their own portal. This is a small change, but it has a significant impact on customer experience.
3. Voice Input: You Can Work Just by Speaking to the ERP
Odoo 20 has added a voice input AI agent — users can directly give commands to the AI by voice without typing. Standing in the warehouse and saying "Check the inventory of this batch of Class A materials" into the phone, the AI can return the results.
The practical application of this feature is far greater than it appears. Consider scenarios like warehouse inventory, workshop inspections, and on-site services—workers wearing gloves and holding tools simply cannot type. Voice input reduces the "barrier to entry" of ERP to zero. This is not a "showy" feature, but one that truly targets the real-world needs of frontline workers in manufacturing and service industries.
Meanwhile, Odoo AI can now automatically select the optimal model—based on the type of task (financial analysis, customer service Q&A, inventory forecasting), it automatically chooses the underlying model (ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude), so users don’t need to worry about which one to use.
4. Manufacturing: Continuous production mode, no need to wait for the entire batch to be completed
In manufacturing scenarios, there is a very practical pain point: the batch concept in traditional ERP is "the next process can only start after one batch is completed." However, in actual production, it is assembly-line style—once the first half of a batch is done, it can proceed without waiting for the entire batch to finish.
Odoo 20's continuous production mode solves this problem: as soon as a partial quantity of a process is completed, the next process can start immediately without waiting for the entire batch to finish. This change may seem minor, but it has a direct impact on the production cycle—especially in discrete manufacturing scenarios, where idle time during batch switching can be significantly reduced.
5. Several "small changes" with significant actual impact
There are a few features that may seem insignificant in the update list, but you will noticeably feel the difference in daily use:
- Invoice line prediction: The system automatically pre-fills products, accounts, taxes, and entries based on billing history — the invoicer goes from "filling in item by item" to "just confirming it."
- Two-level warning for duplicate invoice detection: Red (highly suspected duplicate, blocking posting) and Yellow (requires manual verification) — Previously, Odoo's duplicate detection logic was considered weak, and version 20 has strengthened it.
- Automatic target profit margin pricing: Directly enter the target profit margin on the sales order line, and the system automatically recalculates the selling price—salespeople no longer need to calculate quotes with a calculator.
- Native MCP Server: The Enterprise edition comes with the /mcp endpoint, allowing external AI tools to directly connect to the Odoo database — the significance of this work has been discussed in previous articles, so I won't repeat it here.
- Batch attachment download: You can select multiple invoices at once and package the attachments into a ZIP file for download — a must-have during audit season
- CC recipient record: When sending emails from Odoo, the added CC recipients will be recorded in the internal communication flow, fully traceable throughout the process
Having said so much, I want to say something practical
After reviewing all these feature updates, my biggest takeaway is: Odoo 20's AI features are no longer "floating in the air."
Last year, when everyone was discussing AI+ERP, the conversations were still about "Can AI generate BI reports?" or "Can it build a Q&A bot?" — these are certainly valuable, but they were always supplementary. However, the annual audit AI, continuous production mode, and native TikTok Shop integration in version 20 represent AI directly cutting into core business processes.
For enterprises currently using Odoo, there are three things worth starting now:
First, sort out your data quality. The more things AI can help you with, the stronger the requirements for data quality become. Functions like invoice line prediction and duplicate detection require that your historical data is clean. If your historical invoice accounts don't match up and your accounting logic is messy, AI's prediction efficiency will be greatly reduced—this is something repeatedly mentioned by Odoo partners in multiple project reviews.
Second, evaluate the suitability of TikTok Shop integration. If you are a consumer-facing business dealing in consumer goods, apparel, home furnishings, etc., this feature is worth prioritizing for trial. According to the official documentation, the configuration is not overly complex, but the operational rhythm of TikTok Shop itself differs significantly from traditional e-commerce—it is recommended to first run a small-scale pilot to test the process.
Third, include the annual audit AI in the Q4 plan. The audit is concentrated from the end of the year to the beginning of the next year. After the release of Odoo 20 in September, there will be a few months to prepare data and streamline processes. If the AI-assisted audit can be successfully implemented by January next year, the efficiency of the finance department will be significantly improved.
One final remark: Odoo 20 is not positioned as a "cost-saving alternative for large enterprises," but rather as "an AI ERP that small and medium-sized enterprises can actually use." Judging by these functional details, it is steadily fulfilling this promise.
